What is and is not collected here

This is a static reference site. It has no accounts, no forms, no newsletter and nothing to log in to, which means the privacy position is unusually short. Health pages attract careful readers, so the position is set out plainly rather than in the usual paragraph of hedged nouns.

Nothing is gathered about you here

There is no sign-up, no newsletter, no quote request and no enquiry form anywhere on this site — the pages that discuss getting quotes tell you how to do it yourself, precisely so that nobody has to hand over a phone number to a website first. Nothing you read here is recorded against you, and there is no profile with your name on it because there is no mechanism to build one.

The pages are plain files. Opening one involves your browser asking the server for a page, a stylesheet, two fonts and some drawings, and that is the extent of the transaction.

The server's own log

Web servers keep a record of requests, and this one is no exception: an IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's own description of itself. That is ordinary infrastructure logging, it exists on essentially every website, and its purpose here is keeping the site up and understanding which pages are being read. It is not joined to anything else and it is not sold.

No advertising or analytics network

No third-party advertising script runs on these pages, and no cross-site tracking network is embedded in them. Nothing here follows a reader between sites, and no profile about anybody's interest in hair loss is assembled or passed to anyone. Given what this site is about, that seemed worth stating as a design decision rather than leaving to inference.

Cookies

None are set by this site for its own purposes. There is nothing to remember about you between visits because there is nothing to personalise, and consequently there is no cookie banner to dismiss.

One outbound destination on this site is a commercial one — a single partner, marked in a labelled box wherever its link appears, and described in full on how this site is paid. Following it takes you to another company's website, at which point that company's own privacy policy governs what happens, and whatever it records is recorded by them and not visible here. If you would rather not follow it, nothing on this site depends on your doing so.

The same is true of every other outbound link. Regulators, legislation.gov.uk, the NHS and the electronic medicines compendium each publish their own policies, and this site has no view into and no influence over them.

Health data

You are not giving this site any, and it does not want any. There is no symptom checker, no quiz, no questionnaire and no "find your treatment" tool, all of which collect exactly the kind of information that ought not to be casually handed to a commercial website. A question about your own hair loss belongs to a doctor, who is bound by rules a publisher is not.

Children

This is a reference site for adults, aimed at people weighing a decision that UK advertising rules bar from being marketed to under-18s at all. Nothing here is directed at children and nothing is knowingly collected from them.

Asking about any of this

Write to [email protected]. Where there is nothing held about you, a subject access request has nothing to return, which is an odd answer to give but an honest one. Questions about the logging arrangement or about anything above will be answered plainly.

Changes

If this policy changes, it changes here, and the sentences above will be rewritten rather than quietly amended around. Anything material — an analytics tool, a second partner link, a form of any kind — would be a change to the design of the site and would be described as one.
